Full Node

Full nodes download and validate every transaction that has ever occurred on the chain since its genesis, as opposed to SPVs or light clients that do not do the full work for the entire chain's history. Running a full node allows anyone to plug in a machine and verify the full history of a chain without needing to trust anyone. Full nodes are critical for maintaining auditability, decentralization, and trust-minimization in a blockchain.
