Layer1

In software engineering, application infrastructures are commonly built using a layered approach. Similarly in crypto, this refers to a blockchain’s network infrastructure of a cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. However, in blockchain, there are two primary layers: Layer 1 and Layer 2.Layer 1 is the underlying main architecture of a blockchain, such as the already existing and functioning Bitcoin or Ethereum network. Layer 1 blockchain architectures are commonly based on the Proof of Work consensus model, which is functional and has served its initial purpose well but is imperfect and difficult to scale.
